Denise Kiernan with Neal Thompson
Denise Kiernan, author of The Girls of Atomic City, takes on the history of George Vanderbilt’s Biltmore House in her new book, The Last Castle: The Epic Story of Love, Loss, and American Royalty in the Nation's Largest Home (Touchstone).
Biltmore House, a spectacular European-style estate including a 175,000-square-foot chateau (designed by Richard Morris Hunt) with landscape design by Frederick Law Olmsted, on grounds nearly three times the size of Washington, D.C. was built on wilderness near Asheville, North Carolina and survives today. She appears in conversation with Neal Thompson, author most recently of A Curious Man: The Strange and Brilliant Life of Robert "Believe It or Not!" Ripley (Three Rivers Press).
