Lynda V. Mapes

Having earlier in the year virtually celebrated publication of award-winning Seattle Times journalist and author Lynda Mapes’ newest book Orca: Shared Waters, Shared Home (Braided River/Mountaineers Books, co-published with the Seattle Times), now will hopefully get to do so in-person with this Town Hall evening. This beautifully produced book features visual work by Seattle Times photographer Steve Ringman, along with contributions from partner organizations including The Whale Museum, NOAA, and the Center for Whale Research. Through it all, Lynda Mapes’ fine, insightful writing tells, from a particular, human perspective, of the lives of these remarkable creatures, what we know of them, and what imperils them now. She is also the author of Witness Tree, Breaking Ground, Elwha: A River Reborn, and Washington: The Spirit of Our Land. Lynda Mapes will also be featured in an upcoming segment of Town Hall Writer in Residence Samantha Allen’s new podcast, Beasts of Seattle.

Presented by Town Hall Science in partnership with Elliott Bay Book Company.
