Michele Filgate with Mary Ann Gwinn
Michele Filgate, editor and contributor to What My Mother and I Don't Talk About: Fifteen Writers Break the Silence (Simon and Schuster) appears in conversation with Seattle Times Lit Life columnist Mary Ann Gwinn tonight. This book began in the wake of responses to Michele Filgate’s 2017 Longreads article, in which she wrote about the effect of her stepfather’s abuse of her on her relationship with her mother. The essays in What My Mother and I Don't Talk About are intimate, powerful and affirming.
“This collection of storytelling constellated around mothers and silence will break your heart and then gently give it back to you stitched together with what we carry in our bodies our whole lives.” -Lydia Yuknavitch.
