Here in Seattle, along with many others, for this year’s meeting of the Modern Language Association is Spanish poet Pedro Larrea, who will read tonight from his recently translated book, published in English as The Wizard’s Manuscript (Valparaiso Editions). Translated by Benjamin Eldon Stevens, this is, as the title suggests, a book with spells and conjuring, albeit by surprising means and modes. The fabulistic is here, but so is a real world. We expect this reading will be in both Spanish and English. We also expect that it will be a delight. Originally from Madrid, Pedro Larrea presently teaches at University of Lynchburg, in Virginia.
