Scriber Lake High School Student Writers
Today we present a student reading by writers from Scriber Lake High School, an alternative high school in the Edmonds School District. Led by educator Marjie Bowker, the school’s groundbreaking writing program aims to foster healing, understanding, and literacy through personal storytelling. Listen: Young Writers Reflect on Chaos, Clarity, Action, Balance is compiled and edited by Marjie Bowker and Leighanne Law and is published by Steep Stairs Press (Scriber’s publishing company). Each story is followed by reflections from the writers, as well as parents and mentors. New this year is a collaborative partnership between Scriber Lake’s writing and music programs, in which student musicians have composed original songs based on the stories in Listen. All proceeds from book sales will support future student writing programs at Scriber Lake. Educators Marjie Bowker and Leighann Law (an Elliott Bay Book Company bookseller alum) will MC the program, which is free and open to the public.
