Maggie

Brand-new to Seattle and bookselling, Maggie made her way west from Wisconsin and settled on Capitol Hill. She enjoys reading, nature, sports, music, and making people laugh with her ridiculous puns. Her 3 cats and wife are her biggest fans.

A beautifully written coming of age and coming out story featuring our endearing and naive Nancy "Nan" Astley from a small fishing village in England during the 1890s. This book is a fantastic work of fiction for LGBTQ+ folx looking for representation when there was none. It has stood the test of time and continues to remain one of my favorites.

Written in the 1950s, Black Like Me takes you on an emotional rollercoaster ride from start to finish. The author, John Howard Griffin, a southern white man, takes medication to alter the color of his skin and attempts to assimilate into the deep South as a Black man. What he observes and experiences is unlike anything he could have imagined. This book opened my eyes to racial inequality at a young age and I've studied it ever since.

A curse. A 17th century witch. Welcome to Black Spring! But in all seriousness, this book creeped me out. Not only that, but its narrative is unique to the horror genre, along with plot twists and unexpected turns; I did not want to put it down. I'm always on a quest to find the most terrifying, nightmare-producing novel and Hex did not disappoint!
